I Know a Guy Podcast

I know a guy who used to measure his worth by how busy he was.
I know a guy who could quote Scripture but couldn’t tell you what he was feeling.
I know a guy who lost his temper, lost his marriage, and almost lost himself trying to hold it all together.

Yeah…that guy was me.

Do you know a guy like that? Or maybe…you are that guy.

This is I Know a Guy, a podcast for those guys who need a place to be honest, to laugh a little, maybe cry a little, and remember who you really are.

I’m Steve Cummings, and this podcast is an outgrowth of a ministry called Bringing Kingdom, where we walk with men one conversation, one connection, and one community at a time.

If you know a guy who needs this conversation - send him this episode.
And if that guy is you, I know a guy who’d love to talk with you.

That guy…is me.

Visit BringingKingdom.org/talk to start your own conversation, and remember - when men live loved, the Kingdom shows up.

Thanks for listening to I Know a Guy.

Most men don’t realize this
The way you respond to pressure.
The way you handle relationships.
Even the way you see yourself . . .
. . . may not actually be “who you are.” It may be something you learned. Something formed a long time ago.
In this episode of I Know a Guy, we’re talking about the hidden scripts many men are living from — without even knowing it.
Because if you’ve ever felt stuck - like you keep showing up the same way no matter what you try - there may be a reason.
And once you see it - EVERYTHING can start to change.

For many men, the struggle with identity traces back to one relationship:
their father.
Whether he was absent, angry, critical, passive, or simply unavailable…
that relationship leaves marks on a man’s heart.
In today’s episode of I Know a Guy, we explore the father wound and how it shapes how men see themselves and even how they see God.

Every man grew up in a family system.
And whether it was healthy or dysfunctional…loving or chaotic…present or absent…
that system shaped the way you see yourself today.
In this new series on I Know a Guy, we’re unpacking how childhood experiences with parents, siblings, and family dynamics quietly formed the beliefs you carry about yourself, others, and even God.
Because until you understand your story… you may still be living inside it.

A lot of resentment in marriage gets blamed on sex.
But sex usually isn’t the real issue.
Connection is.
In this episode of I Know A Guy, we talk about the hidden resentment many men carry when they feel rejected in marriage—and why acting out never solves the real problem.
Because I know a guy who had to lose almost everything before he learned how connection actually works.

Resentment is one of the most dangerous emotions a man can carry.
It doesn’t explode overnight.
It builds slowly… quietly… over years.
And if a man doesn’t know what to do with it, resentment eventually comes out sideways.
Porn.
Affairs.
Emotional shutdown.
In this episode of I Know A Guy, we talk about why resentment is toxic for men—and how ignoring it can eventually destroy your marriage and your life.
Because I know a guy who learned this the hard way.  Me.
If resentment has been building in your life and you don’t know what to do with it, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Most men assume that if they’re walking with God, life should smooth out.
But Scripture says trials are part of growth.
Anxiety may not be proof you’re failing. It may be proof you’re being refined.
In this final episode of our anxiety series on I Know a Guy, we talk about testing, endurance, and why your calling is greater than your comfort.
If you’re tired of feeling like your anxiety disqualifies you…

Anxiety loves two words:
“If only.”
If only I had more.
If only this changed.
If only I felt different.
But the “if only” life never ends — because as soon as one thing improves, another fear takes its place.
In Episode 5 of our series on anxiety on I Know a Guy, we talk about contentment — not passive, not lazy — but anchored. Rooted. Stable.
Peace that doesn’t move every time your circumstances do.
If you’re tired of chasing relief that never lasts…
Text “Hey Steve” to 714-742-9625. Let’s talk.
Peace isn’t one change away. It’s one surrender away.

If you struggle with anxiety, you probably want peace before you move.
Calm before you obey.Relief before you take the next step.
But in Luke 17, ten lepers cried out to Jesus — and He healed them as they went.
That’s the picture: healing while you walk.
In Episode 4 of our series on anxiety, we talk about what it looks like to take your next step with a racing heart — not pretending you’re fine, but trusting Jesus is with you.
If you’re tired of waiting to “feel better” before you show up again…
Text “Hey Steve” to 714-742-9625Let’s talk.
You don’t have to be calm to be faithful. You just have to keep walking.

Anxiety and humility are more connected than we think.
Sometimes what feels like responsibility… is actually control. And what feels like strength… is quiet pride.
If you’re exhausted from carrying what was never yours to carry…Today's episode of I Know a Guy will hit home.
We talk about how humility becomes freedom, how the enemy uses anxiety to isolate men, and why casting your burdens on God is not passive — it’s powerful.
If you’re tired of holding it together alone…
Text “Hey Steve” to 714-742-9625Let’s talk.
You were never meant to carry the universe.

You cannot stay neutral with anxiety.
If you don’t intentionally anchor yourself, you will drift — either into panic or into numbness.
Some men explode.
Some men disappear
Both are fear in disguise.
In Episode 2 of our anxiety series, we talk about why neutrality is a myth and how prayer becomes warfare — not passive, not weak — but a decisive move away from fear’s rule.
If you’re tired of riding emotional waves…If you’re exhausted from either spiraling or shutting down…
It may be time to anchor.
Text “Hey Steve” to 714-742-9625Let’s talk.
You don’t have to keep getting tossed.
